The Ritual Movie Premiere

*SPOILER ALERT* "The Ritual" is a horror movie about three friends who get lost in the wilderness and encounter a shape-shifting Norse god. The god named Jōtunn, can choose how one sees it and it’s part of the way it intimidates and controls. In the movie, it resembles a giant undead moose with human features. Tapping into your mind, the God makes you hallucinate your darkest thoughts, leaving you petrified, as it kills you. I wanted the poster to be mysterious, possibly showing the monster without the viewer even knowing, just like it does in the movie. I decided to use ink for the illustration because of how the medium tends to have a darker and more graphic look. Since each person would see something different in the monster, i thought about the Rorschach test. This idea led me to create an illustration that acts as a rorschach test but also resembles the Gods face. Once i had some illustrations i was happy with I brought them into photoshop and edited the color, imperfections, etc.
